SHOP SMALL - Canada's Small Business Week

It's Small Business Week!

Canada's Small Business Week is here (October 18 - October 24)! Small Business Week is a time to celebrate all the local businesses and small business owners in Canada, which account for 97.9% of all businesses in the country (source: Key Small Business Stats). 2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, small business owners are no exception. This year, more than ever, we should come together (in spirit!) to celebrate the challenges small business owners have gone through and are still going through due to the pandemic.

How to Shop Small

Better Business Bureau (BBB) has shared some tips about how to "shop small" to support local businesses:

Do your research and shop local. Since the pandemic may have altered the stores' mode of service, hours, and product offerings, make sure to plan ahead. Check if the store has guidelines and protocols in place for physical distancing and masking. Take your shopping online, if possible.

Social Media. The reach of social media is obvious. Share your favourite local businesses on your platform to help advertise. Take pictures of the store or products, and use hashtags (#ShopSmall #SupportLocal #SmallBusiness).

Tell your friends and family. Invite your friends and family to go on a little shopping spree with you to your favourite local businesses. Then, they can show you their favourites. (Remember: go in small social groups and wear a mask!)

Christmas is coming up. Gift shop early! Visit your local flower shop, bookstore, toy store, boutique, or jewelry store for a special gift. Gift cards from your favourite local restaurant or spa is an awesome gift as well.

Share. Share your experience with a certain local business. Tell people why you love it and why it's special.

HAPPY SHOPPING EVERYONE!
