B.C. COVID-19 Restrictions: What About Gyms and Group Fitness Activities?

Many Canadians may not own a comparable amount of fitness equipment to their gyms or community centres. Or they may live in apartments or high-rises with small spaces and/or noise constraints. With the rising cases in B.C., the province had no choice but to implement harsher restrictions. What does this entail for regular gym-goers and group fitness lovers?

High risk indoor group physical activities operating in businesses, recreation centres or other organizations have been suspended. This includes:

  • Spin classes

  • Hot yoga

  • High intensity interval training (HIIT)

Other indoor group fitness activities may remain in operation if in compliance with the updated guidance (in development - please check B.C Government landing page for updates). This includes:

  • Dance studios

  • Martial arts

  • Cheerleading

Gyms and Recreation Facilities

Gyms and recreation facilities offering individual workouts and personal training sessions can remain open if they have an approved COVID-19 Safety Plan that is strictly followed.

We need to all follow these guidelines in order to return to "normal" as soon as possible. Just endure for a little longer and push through!

Here's a little high five (physical distancing style)!
